Even though it is meant to be sloppy and messy, the messy bun is actually a worked-up hairstyle. Find out how to achieve this messy bun every time, thanks to Jennifer Lopez's hairstylist.
The “messy bun” is probably the hairstyle that seems the easiest and quickest to achieve, but which actually requires the most time in the bathroom to be perfect. Too tight, too loose, too oval, too high, or too low... In short, the fuzzy bun often gives us a hard time - but also some nervous breakdowns in front of the mirror.
Need a professional tutorial for a perfect messy bun in seconds? After the spiky bun and the twist-knot bun, you will be able to make a perfect messy bun. It's Chris Appleton, the hairstylist of big stars like Jennifer Lopez, Dua Lipa, and Kim Kardashian, who shows you in an Instagram video his unstoppable method for a messy bun in less than 5 minutes. For this, you will need a brush, a comb, 2 rubber bands, pins, hairspray, and a toothbrush.
Using your comb, start by separating your hair by making a parting in the middle. Then tie the two parts into pigtails, leaving the ends in the elastic.
Pass a duvet in the other and come to hold them with pins. You now have the base of your messy bun. Then attach the remaining tips to the back of the skull with other pins, hiding them in the bun. Freeze everything with hairspray.
Finally, fix the small hair. Spray a toothbrush with hairspray and then, with sweeping strokes, style your “baby hair” as desired.
A little editorial tip
Loosen a few very fine locks from the front and sides to amplify this neglected effect, done in a few seconds flat. You can also lightly tug not the bun but the hair underneath to create volume.
