Hair accessories have been around for thousands of years. For decoration, flowers were tucked into the hair or threads and gold ornaments were woven into it. In the summer of 2021, a black bow stands out as a hair trend between ribbons and hoops. It also has a longer history: Coco Chanel liked to wear the hair accessory. The black bow is still a popular accessory in the Chanel collections today.
When Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel started her career, she initially focused on hats and headdresses. In 1910 the hat shop "Chanel Modes" opened. She wore her own creations on festive occasions as well as in her free time. When there was no hat covering her head, a black bow adorned her hair. Today, the hair accessory is constantly being reinterpreted in the collections of the Chanel fashion house. In addition to bouclé costumes, pearl necklaces, and camellias, the black bow is also one of the classics.
Gabrielle Chanel (around 1945) wore either hat she had designed herself or a black bow on her head.
The trend towards the black bow has always been eye-catching, romantic, and elegant at the same time. The German supermodel Claudia Schiffer presented a special look for Chanel in 1995: a long ponytail that was adorned with black bows from the top of the head to the tips. In addition, a little black and seductive black make-up eyes.

In the current spring/summer 2021 season, too, you could see the trend towards black ribbons on the runway. In small, large, with a short veil, or in the miniature version. At Giambattista Valli, a black bow on the head crowns the elegant look in black and white. In the Chanel spring/summer 2021 collection, black bows are combined with short veils. At Ermanno Scervino, on the other hand, mini bows adorn a hairband. The look is slightly playful, always elegant.
