Bye bye, perfect updos! In the course of the trendy boho style, casual, playful hippie hairstyles are being revived instead. We present you with the most beautiful summer hairstyles including instructions...
Hippie hairstyles are especially popular for festival visits but are also wonderfully suitable for other occasions...
We all know the pictures from the Coachella Festival, which takes place annually in California (before the start of the corona pandemic), for which stars from all over the world threw themselves into dazzling clothes and braided cute hippie hairstyles to pose for the paparazzi. What is striking, however, is that the typical festival look represented there, which in its basic features is reminiscent of the hippie movement and flower power time of the 60s and 70s, has for some time also been popular beyond the music festivals.
In the fashion world, this has long been established under the name “Boho-Style”, which is particularly popular in summer and consists of a lively fashion mix of different materials, patterns, and accessories. But when it comes to hair, too, the boho style is currently on the rise.
In the following, we will tell you everything about the new, trendy hippie hairstyles.
The term “boho hairstyles” (or hippie hairstyles) includes all hairstyles with an unconventional, playful look. Colored strands, glitter, pearls, flowers, or feathers that adorn it are just as typical. You can also create cool boho hairstyles with accessories such as headbands or bandanas. It doesn't matter whether it is open, half-open, pinned up, or braided - the main thing is that the hairstyle looks a bit undone instead of strict and accurate.
Hippie hairstyles with a modern touch come in a wide variety of variations. We have summarized eight beautiful and trendy styles (including instructions) for you:
Bandanas are triangular or square cloth towels that come in many different designs. In summer, however, models with colorful prints are particularly popular.
The hair scarf can be wrapped around a bun or ponytail, for example (the two ends should dangle casually downwards), or braided into a braid.
The bandana also cuts a great figure as a headband (as with Nicole Richie) or tied over the mane (as with influencer Lena Terlutter). For the latter, all you have to do is fold the scarf into a triangle and knot the two corners together at the neck - it couldn't be more uncomplicated!

Hairbands are even more convenient and easy to style. They don't even have to be folded, because they can be pulled directly over your head or hairline, where they keep your hair out of your face for the whole day.
Wide hairbands are reminiscent of headbands, only that you can wear them in summer due to the thin fabric. But you can also use an extra slim model that is a little more inconspicuous. Braided hairbands in particular have a hippie character.
What do you do with the hair under the headband? Either leave it open (like blogger Carmushka) or tie it in a high ponytail or messy bun.
In hot temperatures, boho fans prefer to wear braids so as not to work up a sweat under their own head of hair.
From the all-time favorite herringbone braids to boxer braids to trendy accent braids, which are two thin mini braids on the left and right of the face that frame it: braided hairstyles always go and look cute and cheeky at the same time. Of course, all kinds of hippie accessories and real flowers can also be woven in.
Here is a guide to boxer braids (like influencer Camila Coelho's):
A little tip: Make sure that both braids start at the same height, otherwise the finished hairstyle will look a bit strange.
Tip for everyone who is looking for a playful boho hairstyle with a special twist: A bubble braid is not only very trendy but also quickly styled. Although the brisk hairstyle did not yet exist in the days of the hippies, the braid immediately makes us want to visit the festival.
Hair ties are the only thing you need for the look (besides long hair). We explain how this works in three steps:

Space buns are two small Mni-buns on the top of the head that look original and modern (simply spacey). The simple hairstyle can be pimped in any way you like, for example with shiny hair ties or a bit of glitter on the hairline.
Incidentally, we can also recommend the cool space buns for festive occasions such as a wedding. So if you are fed up with the same hairstyles, you can use the effortless bun variant for variety.
That's how it works:
You can't get more hippie than that: (Real) flowers can transform your hairstyle into a good mood look in no time at all. With individual flowers in your open hair or a braid, you set romantic-feminine accents, while you are guaranteed to attract everyone's attention in no time with a striking wreath of flowers as an eye-catcher. Such a wreath of flowers has long been commonplace at weddings, as it makes the perfect boho bridal hairstyle.
It is best to pin individual flowers in place with hairpins. To do this, stick the first hairpin sideways through the head of the flower and carefully place the flower in your hair. Now take a second hairpin, which you can use to pin the flower from the other side (almost crosswise).
Perfect? Does not have to be! The half-bun, which is often referred to as the messy bun, has long since blossomed into the right hairstyle for all situations, despite its messy appearance.
For the half-open hairstyle, only the top hair, which can be annoying in front of your eyes, is gathered together and tied into a loose, messy bun, while the rest of the hair simply remains open. The undone look is more than desirable, which is why individual hairs are allowed to stick out.
Whether you are a chaos queen or not: the hippie bun suits every woman and is especially practical for everyday use.
Open waves (also known as beach waves or salty waves) are also typically boho and spread laid-back beach vibes. Another advantage: The casual hairstyle fits almost any occasion and is really easy to imitate.
Even at weddings, these are more and more common with brides or bridesmaids for whom the classic updos are too good. For a real eye-catcher look, the Beach Waves can also be supplemented with hair accessories, a hairband, a colored clip-in strand, or the like.
And this is how your Beach Waves succeed:
