A new year, a new hairstyle. But it's not quite that simple: Not all cuts that we're going for in 2022 are also popular with men.
Tastes differ, that much is clear. What is very popular with us women quickly gets a thumbs down from many men. We think "wow, great haircut!", men think "oh no!". Well, dear men, you have to be strong now: You just don't have a clue about hairstyles. Let's see which haircuts fail you and what a huge mistake you're making.
Sometimes women just need perspective - what's better than tying your hair tightly back into a bun or braid? We even have a name for it: it's the sleek look! But what makes our hearts skip a beat seems to cause the hearts of the lords of creation to sink into their pants.
This follows a simple but incorrect male logic: hair tied back has nothing to do with being in control and therefore does not mean that we go to the basement to laugh or that we are strict governesses. The sleek look simply means we might not feel like brushing our hair out of our faces every five seconds. Or that we had so much fun last night that we didn't have time to do great hairstyling this morning. So who's humorless here, dear men?
Short hairstyles are very popular with men. The less care is necessary, the better it is for the gentlemen. But as soon as a woman opts for short hair, men gasp. Instead of self-confident women, they see scratchy emancipation.
Even with the bobsled, the alarm signals go off for some guys. If it gets any shorter, they switch to panic mode. With the pixie cut, they cheekily assume that we don't want to show our feminine side. We have rarely laughed so much! Instead of listening to you, we wear short haircuts with pride. Because we know: Our character depends on many things, but certainly not on our hairstyle!
But even the exact opposite of the easy-care bob haircut is only criticized by men. Short haircuts seem too masculine to them, but they have a problem with the feminine beehive, which has been worn since the 1960s by style icons such as Brigitte Bardot and Amy Winehouse.
A woman with this hair section looks stylish, feminine, and - to be honest - also quite sexy. But men think that we cover up our natural femininity with tons of hairspray and spend hours in the bathroom to do it. You can't think of a more stupid prejudice.
Admittedly, crimped hair is a challenge for us too. We are walking a balancing act between a modern messy look and a failed mop hairstyle. But we trust our hairdresser: If the look is successful, then other hairstyles can pack a punch - more individuality on the head is not possible.
For men, however, this look seems to trigger AC/DC's "Highway to Hell". They think we're on our way to an '80s party. Well, dear men, you must be very strong now: Where we go is none of your business. Just as little as the hairstyle that we wear it.
The name doesn't sound a bit unfavorable: when cutting a pot, men think we put a salad bowl on its head and then use scissors to cut off what's peeking out from underneath. Of course, we know that's not the case and wear our mushroom hairstyle with grandeur and confidence - after all, we live in the 21st century.
But one thing is also clear: cool men also like us with a bowl cut (and with all other hairstyles)! And to all the men who still judge a woman by her hairstyle, we say: It finally arrives in the modern age! We know what we like and we dare to show it! If you don't like it, just keep your opinion to yourself. We already have our own.
