We spoke to hair expert Estíbaliz Calvo from Espacio Q in Madrid to find out which classic haircuts are flattering and timeless.
Angelina Jolie's look is one of the most subtle, but also one of the most interesting: the variation in length is barely noticeable, but still sufficient to liven up the hair. In combination with a side parting, more volume can be achieved. In any case, the changed look seems to fit perfectly with Jolie's style maxims and give her a touch of new, without going down an unusual path - a fact that should be taken into account when choosing a new, classic cut.
After many years with XL hair, Penélope Cruz is now wearing meaningful shoulder-length hair - at the same time as the long bob trend from Kendall Jenner or Victoria Beckham. She announced it through her Instagram account with a picture together with the photographer Mario Testino, but it wasn't until her debut as director of a documentary about childhood leukemia that we were able to examine the result closely: thicker and fuller hair thanks to the side parting and the ends of the hair Height of the collarbone.
Smooth and straight haircuts make round face shapes look younger (without losing the coolness factor). Think back to that picture of Jennifer Aniston from 2011 at a presentation in Madrid.
If you have a narrow face, Calvo recommends a layered haircut as it will add flattering volume to your hair, like this bob Cate Blanchett wore at the Armani Couture parade last July. The 51-year-old actress showed off her haircut at the last Academy Awards, and her stylist Robert Vetica of Wella Professionals said it was inspired by Diana Vreeland's book, The Modern Woman. "I cut her hair at chin level to create a modern and chic look," he told US Weekly.
In addition to our face shape, the effect we want to give our hairstyle is also important. If you want a more sober and sophisticated result, Calvo recommends a straight cut. Although Jennifer Connelly's hair color is very dark - and dark tones highlight expression lines - the minimalist haircut can make them look younger.
"Textured, voluminous hair," like Victoria Beckham's, is Calvo's favorite way to rejuvenate yourself with a classic haircut. On her Instagram account, the designer and entrepreneur revealed her new wavy long bob and revealed that it is the work of star stylist Luke Hersheson. A haircut that received a lot of media commentary as it marked the return of the posh-spice look, but this time in a wavy version and more casual than the original when she was 20 years old. Now, at 46, and after several hair transformations, the former Spice Girl seems to have found the most minimalist and sophisticated hair look for herself.
The actress Gwyneth Paltrow has been using a very specific look for years that has a very rejuvenating effect. The secret? Long hair, a center part, and natural golden strands in her blonde hair.
Caroline de Maigret has hardly changed over the years. Calvo recommends a look that softens facial features. The bangs are a plus when it comes to hiding the first wrinkles.
Heidi Klum wears her flattering haircut alternately with and without bangs. This variant with bangs creates a light and natural effect. The haircut frames her face and enhances the effect with the blonde coloring that gets lighter towards the ends.
Calvo advises avoiding very dark colors, "which cloud our face and highlight our expression lines". The expert finds that "hazelnut, caramel, and honey tones are perfect." They shed light on the face, give the hair density and dimension. The look of Jennifer Lopez, which the singer wore to an "American Idol" party earlier this year, represents the advantages of these soft tones.
"A collarbone-level haircut with bangs like Emma Stone's can also be very flattering," explains Calvo. The classic cut Helena Christensen wore in 2012 goes well with this description. Whether with shorter or longer hair, the former supermodel has remained true to the bangs for years, which she wore on many occasions even in his youth: a hair element that rejuvenates and loosens her iconic shiny brown hair.
"For those looking to make a bigger change and switch to short hair, the short hairstyle with smooth lines like Michelle Williams' is a great option," explains Calvo. Or this look from Charlize Theron at a gala in 2013. The actress recommended all women to be inspired by the short hairstyle she wore in "Mad Max". She then let her hair grow back longer in all sorts of transitional cuts, like this flattering boy cut with bangs.
