The best hairstyle for 2022? The butterfly haircut - and this is what it looks like!
The butterfly haircut is perfect for anyone who would like the cool look of a short hairstyle but doesn't dare to cut their hair.
Many stars are already wearing the butterfly haircut: a haircut that combines a short haircut with long hair
In recent years, the huge popularity of the bob (in all its forms) has prompted many women to shave off their long hair in search of the perfect short hairstyle. But what about those who are hesitant to embrace the bob trend—who are excited about the idea but don't want to decide to shave off years of hard-earned long hair?
Introducing the butterfly haircut, a hairstyle that gives the illusion of a short haircut but with the security of a long haircut. "It's a short haircut within a long haircut," says hairstylist Luke Hersheson, "and a style that allows you to wear your hair up at the back but look like you have short hair from the front. It's called a butterfly because the idea behind it is that the hairstyle offers two completely different looks."
The look consists of two different hair levels
Hersheson likens the butterfly cut to having grown out bangs (about eight to 12 weeks after cutting). The cut consists of two obvious stages - the first of which is the bangs, which are about the length of a short hairstyle. This top layer of hair falls casually out of a low ponytail or bun at the back of the neck, making it look like you have a bob — even though you don't have one. "It's like a fake bob," says Hersheson. "It frames the face really nicely."
The second tier gives the cut its length, and as mentioned earlier, this part of the cut can be pinned up or left open, depending on your mood and style. "It's a good way to capture the coolness, androgyny, and boyishness of short hair without feeling completely committed to it," adds Hersheson.
The cut is particularly flattering for round faces
It's a very flattering 70's style cut for those who like a certain length. It provides dynamism, fullness, and texture without the need for a lot of styling. Plus, it offers just that low-maintenance, face-framing effect that people with round faces can benefit from.
How to style it? This hairstyle looks great when it has a bit of structure, whether it's in the form of curls or a tousled finish. "You want to add some movement to your hair," says Hersheson. "One trick is to tuck damp hair behind your ears and let the hair swing naturally around your cheekbones." Modern, easy to style, and the best of both worlds - how could you not love that?
