To enjoy a beautiful color without exposing our scalp to toxic products.
Many industrial hair dyes are loaded with potentially harmful chemicals. Fortunately, there are natural alternatives that can allow us to achieve beautiful shades naturally and at a lower cost! We tell you everything!
Natural coloring: the dangers of certain industrial coloring
Most hair dyes are filled with chemicals harmful to our health. According to the American Cancer Society, permanent and semi-permanent hair dyes penetrate directly into the hair shaft. Therefore, over time, they increase the risk of cancer, especially bladder cancer and blood cancers such as leukemia.
Natural coloring: how to keep your coloring?
Without knowing it, our homes are full of foods that can be very useful for dyeing our hair. Lemons, coffee as well as other foods can be used to color our hair. Although natural coloring doesn't last as long as chemical coloring, there are a few tips to keep our natural color longer:
Limit our use of hot tools such as hair dryers, straightening irons, and curling irons.
Apply a heat protector to our hair when using hot tools.
Avoid taking hot showers.
Avoid washing your hair too often.
If possible, use a water filter in the shower, which can help filter out lime or chlorine from the water.
Spices
Red hair: Try calendula, rose hips, and hibiscus for a brighter red shade. The effects of these colorations are cumulative, the more you use these colorations the more effects they will have. - Simmer the spices in the water for about 30 minutes.
Filter and pour over your hair.
Leave to air dry. Brown hair: try rosemary, nettle, and sage.
Simmer the three spices with water for 30 minutes.
Cool the mixture.
Filter and pour over your hair.
You can do the process every day after your shower. Be patient - it may take several days to notice a difference.
Mix about a 250ml of henna powder with 500ml of lemon juice. You can also add a tablespoon of vinegar for more vibrant color.
Let sit for about 4 to 6 hours until the dough becomes thick.
Apply to the hair and comb through. (it's very messy!)
Wrap your hair in cling film and let it sit for 2-3 hours.
Rinse it off with water.
Beet juice and carrot juice
Both of these juices can add natural red hues to your current color. You can use them alone or together.
For coloring:
Cover yourself with dirty clothes to protect your skin and clothing.
Apply the juices to your hair. You can also mix the juices with coconut oil or olive oil to condition dry hair at the same time.
Rinse it off with water or apple cider vinegar.
If you find that the color is not dark enough, repeat the process.

Tea
Like coffee, black tea can help you darken your hair color.
Depending on your hair color, you may need to use different teas. Chamomile, for example, is recommended for blond people, while rooibos for redheads. Keep in mind that tea works best with your natural color. You won't be able to turn blonde hair into brown hair with tea. But black tea can darken blonde hair, and chamomile can lighten it.
For coloring:
Use 3-5 tea bags (or roughly the same amount if you have loose leaf tea) per 500ml.
Mix your tea with a leave-in conditioner.
Apply the cooled tea to clean hair alone.
Leave it on for at least an hour, or longer if you want for a brighter color. Some even keep the mixture overnight and rinse it off the next morning.
Rinse it off with water. You can also opt for the apple cider vinegar rinse which helps to keep the color longer and the color to last longer.
Depending on your hair color, you may need to repeat the process several times to get noticeable results.
Lemon juice
Lemon juice is very effective in lightening hair. Lemon juice works slowly, so expect to repeat applications a few times before you see results.
Spray lemon juice on your hair. If you are blonde you can mix the juice with chamomile tea.
Leave on for several hours.
Rinse.
Coffee
Coffee works great if you are looking for a dark color or if you want to dye your hair white.
For coloring:
Simply brew a strong coffee (like espresso for example), let it cool.
Mix your cup of coffee with a leave-in conditioner.
Apply the mixture to clean hair and let sit for about an hour.
Rinse with water. You can also opt for the apple cider vinegar rinse which helps to keep the color longer and the color to last longer.
Depending on your hair color, you may need to repeat the process several times to get noticeable results.
