Are these the new hair trends that we will see everywhere in 2022?
Actually, we all agree. The most exciting TV event of the year isn't the Eurovision Song Contest, it's not the Champions League final, and the Olympic Games can't keep up either. Because we secretly love the big makeover of "Germany's Next Top Model". Completely logical, because hair falls, tears flow, and some models are no longer recognizable afterward - and we can be there.
Even if we don't always want to admit it, the numbers show it: The makeover of "Germany's Next Top Model" drives the ratings to dizzying heights. In 2021, the market share was even as high as it was ten years ago. And it gets even worse: The episode of this year's 17th season gave ProSieben record ratings. In the target group of 14 to 29 year olds, the station achieved a market share of 26.5 percent, which is the highest it has been for 14 years. Heidi's new diversity concept seems to be working.
Of course, we also sat in front of the television as if hypnotized and watched the transformations. Eight candidates were given a new look. We show the hair trends for 2022 according to GNTM.
No other candidate has changed as blatantly as Vanessa. With long brown hair, sometimes with beach waves and sometimes straight, she competed in the 17th season of "Germany's Next Top Model". Heidi Klum made short work of it. The result: a bob with straight bangs - in emerald green.
Vanessa's hairstyle is an absolute eye-catcher. Her bob hairstyle and extraordinary color make a perfect match. Both the cut with short bangs and the nuances of aquamarine and turquoise emphasize her pretty face with the blue eyes. The hairstyle requires a lot of courage, but GNTM and Vanessa prove that colorful hair can be stunning.

We've already seen this hairstyle on the catwalks of Chanel and Versace, now contestant Sophie has missed it: ultra-long, straight hair. You don't see any vortex, no wave, no kink, but an ultra shine. The look isn't just a big change for the model because her blonde mermaid hair was dyed dark brown.

Another hair trend that is catching on right now is butterfly hair. The hairdo is an evolution of the curtain bangs we've been seeing everywhere over the past year – and it's also a celebrity favorite! Jennifer Lopez and Margot Robbie swear by it because the style is incredibly versatile thanks to the gentle layers.
The model who is now also a member of the Butterfly Hair Club is Jessica. Instead of natural hair, she now wears a blonde wig. Sometimes this makeover caused criticism on the net: some users criticized that the GNTM candidates are often not allowed to keep their afro hair and that it is concealed under a wig. "Is that supposed to be diversity?" Writes a user on Instagram. A justified objection, because people of color unfortunately often experience discriminatory microaggression because of their hair.

The next hair trend according to GNTM is vanilla blonde. Heidi Klum's styling team created a look from candidate Vivien's naturally dark to ash blonde mane that is a real eye-catcher. By the way, the light but at the same time, warm blonde is very popular in the fashion blogger scene. A gloss in the roots that is a few shades darker makes growing out uncomplicated.

The next hair trend for 2022 is full of vintage vibes. Candidate Luca got a perm – and thus revives the 70s. The mane has a wow effect, especially when worn openly. It's easy when it comes to styling: you can give the newly gained volume even more texture with a bit of curling spray.

GNTM candidate Noëlla also went through a color transformation similar to Vanessa: from her natural hair color to pastel purple. Heidi Klum is picking up on Veri Peri, the trend color of the year according to the Pantone Institute of Color.
