Straight hair: This is the hairstyle trend for 2021
The haute couture show for Valentino's spring/summer collection has made it official: silky straight hair is back and a big trend for the next season.
The past few seasons have been all about natural hair with light waves and some volume. Now, however, we're going back to our favorite styling tool from the 2000s: the straightening iron. Pop-rock queens like Christina Aguilera and Avril Lavigne, but also actresses like Jennifer Aniston in "Friends" made the ultra-smooth look a trend back then. Thanks to the spring/summer 2021 haute couture shows, straightened hair is now celebrating its comeback, and we're already heating up the straightening irons and straightening brushes.
The first clue was the Chanel fashion show - there were models with super straight hair and center parting on the catwalk. We got the confirmation from Valentino. In the presentation staged by creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, we saw the trend in its most extreme form. The models wore silky smooth XXL hair down to their hips without even a hint of volume, also combined with a middle parting.
A straightening iron or straightening brush is of course needed to mimic the trend hairstyle - unless your hair is particularly fine and naturally smooth in texture. But remember that these styling devices can damage the hair fiber from the heat. It is therefore important to always use heat protection and to provide the hair with plenty of moisture in order to avoid hair breakage. The good news is that although Valentino's hair was mostly super-long - we get the impression that Lily Collins' hairstyle was used as a template in the "Emily in Paris" series - the look works for all hair lengths. Giorgia Tordini recently proved this with her straight bob, at Chanel there were variations in the chin to shoulder length, and at Valentino, we also saw models with shorter (and therefore more realistic) straight hair, hairstyles with (straight) bangs also there. If you want to imitate the XXL look, extensions are an option.
Don't forget that with a sleek hairstyle it is more important than ever that the hair is well-nourished and cared for, otherwise, the tips will stick out, begin to fly, and make them look rather frizzy overall. Anyone who already has fine, straight hair can definitely look forward to the next season: Finally, you no longer have to worry about waves that don't last one way or another and (always, always) say goodbye to your hair in record time.
