Itchy Scalp? These 6 Home Remedies Can Help

Itchy scalp is very uncomfortable and is often associated with hair loss and dandruff. Since the itching can often be due to dry skin or an infection, it is now up to you to counteract the dehydration and inflammation. We'll tell you which gentle home remedies can relieve an itchy scalp without damaging your skin.

Itchy Scalp? These 6 Home Remedies Can Help

6 home remedies: What helps against itchy scalp?

1. Coconut Oil

Coconut will give your skin the moisture it needs right now when it's too dry and itchy. It is no coincidence that many beauty products contain valuable plant milk. Coconut oil in particular (some also call it coconut fat) is particularly suitable for your hair because it contains valuable minerals and fatty acids that inhibit pathogens that impair hair growth and promote the regeneration of brittle hair.

All you need is a teaspoon of coconut oil, which you liquefy in a water bath. Before actually washing your hair, massage the oil into your scalp and let it soak in. Then you wash your hair as usual but do without the conditioner.

2. Rosemary

Rosemary oil is also great for caring for your scalp. Even the ancient Romans used it against hair loss. It is said to stimulate blood flow to the scalp, thereby promoting the absorption of important nutrients that your hair follicles need to grow. It also has a balancing and soothing effect on your scalp. Either wash your hair with rosemary-based hair shampoo or use concentrated rosemary oil, which you massage into the scalp and leave on before washing your hair.

3. Chamomile Oil

You may be familiar with chamomile as a versatile medicinal plant for internal inflammation or stomach problems. However, its anti-inflammatory properties are also great for soothing your scalp and relieving itching. The best way to do this is to use highly concentrated essential chamomile oil, which you massage regularly. It's always worth having a small bottle at home because you can use it in so many different ways.

4. Tea Tree Oil

There are really only good things to say about tea tree oil! Due to its antibacterial effect, it soothes inflammation on your scalp and counteracts the development of fungi or lichen. You can add a few drops of the oil to your hair wash or specifically dab it on affected inflamed and itchy areas.

5. Peppermint

As an essential oil, peppermint has a similar effect on an irritated scalp as tea tree oil. It is antiseptic and relieves itching. Naturopaths also swear by its positive influence on hair growth and therefore often recommend peppermint oil as a home remedy for treating hair loss. It also has a very pleasant refreshing scent.

6. Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is a similarly common ingredient in hair shampoos as coconut oil. Especially when your scalp dries out a lot from the heating air in winter, it gives it back the moisture it needs. After a regular treatment with jojoba oil shampoo or pure oil, the itching should subside and your scalp should become healthier overall.

Why is my scalp itchy?

There can be many reasons for an itchy scalp. The symptoms can be triggered, for example, by psychological or physical stress. Each person's body reacts differently to stressful situations. But also skin fungus, allergies or hormonal changes can lead to unpleasant itching. In addition, lice or mites can make the scalp itchy.
